The Challenge
There are more than 4 million Muslims in North America who eat halal food. Results from our survey shows, 80% of Muslims in BC are struggling to find halal restaurants. Many Muslim immigrants, international students, refugees and families who moved to North America have hard time finding halal food options locally.
Halal Restaurants and Caterers have a hard time advertising themselves as most don't have social media existence.
How might we make halal food more accessible in North America?

The Solution
An online mobile app platform that taps the halal food industry by connecting halal food consumers to the nearby halal restaurants and caterers.
Key Features
Localized Search
The app will find many different local halal restaurants within your area.
Halal Verified
Each restaurant is manually verified for its eligibility to sell halal dish.
Big Database of Restaurants
The app includes all the halal restaurants. The database is constantly updated for user convenience.
Research
Survey
Conducted a research in the muslim community about the halal food service demand. There are more than 4 million muslims in North America as of 2018 and the population is growing. Our survey results show, 80% muslims are struggling to find nearby halal restaurant.
Interview
Moderated interviews with 10 local halal restaurants and 15 catering services regarding this issue. Halal restaurants and catering services have hard time advertising themselves as most don't have social media existence.
Competitor Analysis
Currently, there is only one website that helps users find halal restaurants in North America but the information is outdated and it doesn’t have a user friendly interface.
Opportunity
Online Mobile Platform
Develop apps for Android and iOS platforms to make halal food easily accessible in the Muslim community.
Social Media Platform
Collaborate with local restaurants and catering services to promote their halal food options on social media and make them more accesible and known to local Muslim communities.
Prototyping & Testing
Started brainstorming with pen & paper and moved to Sketch to create intial wireframes. Few iterations later, I created a clickable prototype in InVision and facilitated multiple usability test sessions to validate the design.
Once validated, I handed off high fidelity mock-ups and spec-sheets to the developer in our team and worked closely with him to ensure that the visual design, user interaction and user experience are consistent with the actual design.

Branding
Throughout the project, I had to wear different designers hat as I am the only designer on the team. I established a well defined brand guideline for Halalme that includes designing the brand logo and various promotional and social graphics.
Identity
The Symbol
The logo is a combination of Arabic word HALAL and English word ME, together it means Halal Me.
